Happy Valentine's Day!

Barbara Reisner forwarded this YouTube link that she received via the Materials Science Department at Cambridge.

I am thinking this must be done with memory metal (for a link to more info on memory metal, see the post entitled Metals in this Demos forum).  The more I watch the video, the more I realize how challenging it must have been to create.  I sent the link to my students in inorganic chemistry since we just talked about memory metal last week and challenged them to think about the steps needed to create the materials used in this demo.

Anybody have any ideas?  Another colleague suggested that the memory metal is dipped in wax of varying thicknesses.  Notice that it seems to burn at different rates.

Enjoy!
