You probably have seen the news that MOFs won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry This year!
If you wanted to use some MOF things in your teaching soon, Chip Nataro put together a collection of 7 MOF LO's (Thanks Chip!), and we are hoping to make more MOF LO's soon.
As we head into a new year (it can't be that time already can it?), I thought it would be worth giving you some updates...
First, thanks to those that filled out the community survey. While we are continuing to digest all of the comments, there were at least two common themes that I will comment on.

Join us on Tuesday, April 15 at 2 pm Eastern (11 am Pacific) for a "DIC-structured" seminar in which senior and junior PUI faculty members discuss how they have successfully published research on research project(s) with undergraduate students. Kyle Grice (DePaul) and Jacob Lutter (University of Southern Indiana) will present on how they have been successful in designing and publishing research at their respective PUI.
Join us for a discussion about the 2023 ACS Guidelines for Undergraduate Chemistry Programs with Michelle Brooks (Assistant Director of the Office of Higher Education at ACS), Cora MacBeth (Emory University) and Barb Reisner (James Madison University). This event will take place on 2/18 at 5 pm eastern. The speakers will provide an overview of the Guidelines with an opportunity for Q&A. This will be followed by a conversation about guidelines for developing and teaching inorganic chemistry courses. The goal is to solicit feedback from the community.

Please join us on Thursday, March 7th at 7:15 pm Eastern (4:15 pm Pacific) as Marilyn Mackiewicz (Oregon State University) presents "Inclusive leadership: Your role in creating cultures of belonging where everyone can thrive". Professor Mackiewicz is a recent awardee (2020) of the Stanley C. Israel Regional Award for Advancing Diversity in the Chemical Sciences from the ACS. Her unique story and experiences will be presented, along with how faculty can make their spaces and themselves more welcoming.
On Wednesday February 21 at 3 pm eastern, join BoB LeSuer (Associate Professor at SUNY - Brockport and President of IBiB) for a discussion on using a maker space for teaching chemistry. Topics include: digital fabrication of pedagogical materials (models and periodic tables); instrumentation (potentiostat and liquid dispenser); and upcycling plastics into functional materials. Of special interest to this group will be work BoB has done on making the ICE solid state model kits (see below) available to anyone.
