I hoped to have a catchy title for this CoLuMn - one that I could spell with elements - but as Anne pointed out, the new elements don't provide much help for spelling!

Every year when I teach inorganic chemistry, I browse VIPEr for new ideas. I adapt and adopt great activities from the community and develop some new things of my own. And every year, after I’ve used LOs, I feel guilty that I don't leave a comment about how the LO worked with my large enrollment sophomore inorganic class. I also know I should post some of the problems I’ve written, but when push comes to shove, other things end up getting done during the academic year.

This summer I decided to banish my guilt by publishing on VIPEr. My summer writing goals include finishing at least one (hopefully two) manuscripts and publishing on VIPEr this summer. I’d like to challenge every member of the IONiC community to PuBLiSH on VIPEr this summer. Here’s the IONiC Summer Community Challenge. At some point between the end of 2015-2016 academic year and the start of the 2016-2017 academic year, I will:

  1. Comment on someone’s learning object that I’ve used in the past year (or two).
  2. Submit a learning object that I developed in the last year (or two) to VIPEr.

I have yet to pick out the LO that I’m going to comment on, but I’ve put together a solid state chemistry question on cesium xenide chemistry that I gave on an exam last spring.

How will you participate in the IONiC Summer Community Challenge?
