Dear IONiC VIPEr Community,

Our first SLiThEr of 2023 will be presented by Dr. Rebecca Black from New College Florida. On January 23rd at 2pm Eastern (11 am Pacific) she will present "What I Learned From PEER".

In this webinar, Dr. Black will share insights and resources from the PEER (Professional Development for Emerging Education Researchers) Chicago Field School that she attended in December. Facilitated and organized by Scott Franklin, Mary Bridget Kustusch, and Myrtle Jones, the Field School was funded through the NSF BCSER program DRL #2025169. Dr. Black will focus on the following practices and topics:

  1. refining research questions and interests via generative writing, “yes, and,” and reflection,
  2. the parallel processes model for research,
  3. collaboration ethics,
  4. research with human subjects,
  5. utilizing Research Riffs, which involves giving and receiving focused feedback in a collaborative setting to advance research projects,
  6. and using theory at every stage of a project to shape and refine research questions.

These practices and topics are applicable to a wide range of research, including chemical research and discipline-based education research (DBER), and should also be shared with our students. We hope this webinar will be of interest to all members of the IONiC VIPEr community!
