The IONiC Leadership Council hosted a workshop on VIPEr and teaching inorganic chemistry for the AALAC community (formerly Mellon 23) June 24-26, 2011 at Smith College in Northampton, MA. This forum will be used for sharing information about the workshop.

June 24-26, 2011

You may park in any of the lots on campus or in the parking garage on West St. (Rt. 66) between white lines that are not metered or otherwise marked.  There is also metered parking on Green Street.

 

Friday

4:00 pm         Arrival, Check-in at Autumn Inn

Workshop registration at Smith College in Ford Hall Atrium

6:00 pm         Dinner and welcome (Ford Hall, Seasons Room (Ford 340))

7:00 pm         Intro to learning object design/Mini-workshop on backward design 

8:00 pm         Small group sharing of learning object ideas

 

Saturday

Breakfast is offered in the Autumn Inn lobby starting from 6 AM

 

Morning Workshop Sessions will be held in Ford Hall, Room 241

 

9:00 am            Welcome and advanced VIPEr user training

9:45 am            Writing a learning object:  pedagogical considerations and VIPEr requirements

10:30 am             Coffee break

11:00 am            Technology tools for teaching (Michael Barresi, Smith College)

12:00 pm            Lunch

 

Afternoon Workshop Sessions will be held in Ford Hall, Room 240

 

1:00 pm            Teaching a learning object – Participants will share what they are developing in small groups

1:45 pm             Working on learning objects

2:30 pm             Coffee break

3:00 pm             Using other social networking technologies

3:45 pm            Working on learning objects

4:30 pm            Inter-institutional teaching - Using technology to bring classes from different institutions together

6:00 pm       Dinner at Sierra Grille, 41 Strong Street, Northampton, MA

10:30 am             Whole group session:  Where do we go from here?  VIPEr development ideas (versioning).  Personal action plans.
