Hi All!
You probably have seen the news that MOFs won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry This year!
If you wanted to use some MOF things in your teaching soon, Chip Nataro put together a collection of 7 MOF LO's (Thanks Chip!), and we are hoping to make more MOF LO's soon.
If you use a MOF activity that you enjoy and want to share with your fellow educators, we would love to see it posted as a LO and as always we can help you with the process if you haven't made an LO before or if it's been a while. We can then add it to the MOF colleaction as well!
We would also love to have more discussion about MOFs and have been having some fun discussions on our Discord Server about the Nobel, MOFs, and other topics. It's a lively place, and we encourage all those interested in teaching chemistry to join, from faculty to postdocs and grad students! You don't have to be an inorganic chemist, we love hearing from folks in all fields who are teaching/interfacing with inorganic chemistry topics in their courses, like General, Organic, or Biochemistry, and others. Here's the BiTeS post with more info and the link to join!
Recent discussions on the discord have been about the Nobel prize (predictions before and fun discussion after!) and also about cleaning glassware with things like aqua regia (by the way, these things are connected! During WWII, two Nobel prizes were dissolved in aqua regia to hide them from the Nazi regime, the story is on this page, starting about halway down). We also have channels about looking for LOs for a certain topic, ideas for LOs, research chat, and others in our discord server.
Sincerely,
Kyle Grice, IONiC LC member
