Synthesis and Characterization of Aluminum Complexes of Redox-Active Pyridyl Nitroxide Ligands (Graves/Schelter)
This literature discussion focuses on a Inorg. Chem. article that describes a series of Pt complexes that exhibit competitive reductive elimination reactions to form either an sp2-sp3 bond or an sp3-sp3 bond. One of the complexes also contains a C-C agostic interaction with the metal. The questions are written to be addressed by students in a foundation-level inorganic course.
1FLO: Species distribution diagrams of iron complexes of catechols (Butler)
This LO is submitted in honor of Alison Butler for her 2023 "ACS Award for Distinguished Service in Advancement of Inorganic Chemistry"
"For groundbreaking accomplishments in bioinorganic chemistry and leadership to the national and international chemistry community through the ACS Division of Inorganic Chemistry"
National ACS Award Winners 2023 LO Collection
This collection of learning objects was created to celebrate the National ACS Award Winners 2023 who are members of the Division of Inorganic Chemistry. The list of award winners is shown below.
Aromatic inclusion within a neutral cavity-containing rectangular grid (Atwood)
This literature discussion LO was created for the ACS National Award Winners 2023 collection. Dr. Jerry Atwood was the recipient of the 2023 ACS Award in Inorganic Chemistry.
A Multidimensional Approach to Carbodiphosphorane-Bismuth Coordination Chemistry: Cationization, Redox-Flexibility, and Stabilization of a Crystalline Bismuth Hydridoborate (Gilliard)
This literature discussion LO was created for the ACS National Award Winners 2023 . Dr. Robert Gilliard was the recipient of the 2023 Harry Gray Award for Creative Work in Inorganic Chemistry by a Young Investigator.
Nickel-catalyzed Hydrodefluorination
This paper describes the use of a catalytic nickel system for the hydrodefluorination of aryl amides. While organofluorine compounds are extremely useful because of their unique properties, there are growing concerns about the impact of these compounds on the environment. Carbon-fluorine bonds are extremely strong, and so getting them to react is a significant challenge for chemists.
Hydrogenative Depolymerization of Nylons
This paper describes work from the Milstein group in which ruthenium catalysts with pincer ligands are used to depolymerize nylons by breaking the C-N bond and hydrogenating the resulting products to amines and alcohols. Waste plastic is a serious environmental concern that needs a solution. Organometallic chemists put significant effort into finding ways to convert monomers into polymers, and now we must figure out ways to do the reverse.
Inorganic Chemistry SC356
From the course catalog: The chemistry of the Main Group elements and the transition metals are studied with emphasis on the properties, structures, and reactivities of these elements and their compounds.
Low-Coordinate Transition-Metal Complexes of a Carbon-Substituted Hemiporphyrazine
This literature discussion was created to accompany the coordination chemistry chapter of a foundation-level inorganic course. It introduces the concept of C-H agostic interactions.
