How do people handle cleaning lab coats if their department/university doesn't have a cleaning service?  I'm not sure I'm comfortable with bringing lab coats home to wash, but I also don't want to have to throw out and replace dirty coats.

Our stockroom manager took them all to be washed periodically (I think at a commercial laundromat, but maybe at his home) but we had the same concerns as you. We now outsource our labcoats with a company. They provide a fleet of labcoats for use every 2 weeks or so, and we return the dirty ones to them and they wash them. It isn't cheap, but we were able to get the college to pay since it falls under EHS/PPE. I can get moe details if you 'd like...

Thanks Adam,

We were able to find a local dry cleaner that is able to clean the lab coats we already have (rather than having to buy/rent new ones).

I think we clean our lab coats every summer, and this year, we got some help from our athletics department, since they have big washers and dryers.  I imagine our coats weren't too dirty, though.  I think previously we may have taken them to a laundromat.
