March 8th - 3 pm eastern
March 8th - 3 pm eastern
This literature discussion LO was created for the ACS National Award Winners 2023 . Dr. Robert Gilliard was the recipient of the 2023 Harry Gray Award for Creative Work in Inorganic Chemistry by a Young Investigator.
Please join us on February 8 at 4pm EST with Patrick Barber (University of West Florida) where he will discuss teaching f-block chemistry to undergraduates. Sign up here for the Zoom link!
Incorporating f-block chemistry into the classroom and lab.
A guided inquiry activity for students to build the MO diagram for HF based on energetic and symmetry considerations. Students then compare their model to a standard MO diagram and examine what additional information a MO diagram conveys that the Lewis structure does not.
This Literature Discussion LO was created for the ACS Inorganic Chemistry Award Winners. Dr. Kit Cummins was the recipient of the 2023 Frederick Hawthorne Award in Main Group Inorganic Chemistry. This LO is based on a recent paper from the group of Dr. Cummins, entitled "Sustainable Production of Reduced Phosphorus Compounds: Mechanochemical Hydride Phosphorylation Using Condensed Phosphates as a Route to Phosphite", published in ACS Central Science, 2022, 8, 332-339.
Dear IONiC VIPEr Community,
Our first SLiThEr of 2023 will be presented by Dr. Rebecca Black from New College Florida. On January 23rd at 2pm Eastern (11 am Pacific) she will present "What I Learned From PEER".
The 2023 VIPEr content development summer workshop for inorganic chemistry faculty will focus on the use of VIPEr as a resource for teaching and on engagement with the Interactive Online Network of Inorganic Chemists (IONiC) community. Participants will create and contribute new literature discussion materials to the website based on the work of Professor Robert J. Gilliard, Jr. from MIT. The workshop is scheduled to start in the late afternoon on Wednesday, June 28 and will conclude at noon on Saturday, July 1. The workshop will take place Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD.
Please join us for SLiThEr #43 with Michael Drummond (St. Mary’s College) on November 30 at 4:00pm EST to learn about an adaptive form of specifications grading. Please sign up here.
Come join us for our next SLiThEr on November 15th at 3 pm eastern. The topic du jour will be your favorite labs. We are asking folks to come and just talk about their favorite lab to teach. You don't need to prepare anything formal for this, just be willing to share. We just ask that you register ahead of time. Although the form asks you to select possible dates, we are locked in on 11/15 at 3 pm.

The deadline for abstracts is fast approaching (Oct. 17th). We will once again be hosting the Undergraduate Research at the Frontiers of Inorganic Chemistry symposium. Both oral and poster submissions are welcome. This serves as your formal invitation to submit a talk. You can just use Chip Nataro (nataroc@lafayette.edu) as the person that invited you.
