Description

This guided literature discussion explores  the 2013 paper by Lavallo and coworkers reporting the synthesis and hydroamination activity of a carba-closo-dodecaborate ligated gold catalyst. This guided discussion examines the synthesis and structure of the ligand and catalyst complex. For a deeper exploration of the catalytic data, see the 1FLO on the same paper.

This LO was developed at the 2022 VIPEr workshop at Cal Poly Pomona in Pomona, CA.

Learning Goals

In answering these questions, a student will learn to:

  • analyze and interpret apparently simple statements in primary literature more in depth
  • extrapolate NMR chemical shifts to electronic environments
  • perform literature searches to look up supplementary and/or related papers
  • analyze and evaluate control reactions in mechanistic papers
Implementation Notes

Students should be given the paper and questions before class to read.  This LO was developed at the 2022 VIPEr workshop at Cal Poly Pomona in Pomona CA. It has not been implemented yet.
