Description

Fundamental principles of inorganic chemistry, including: states of matter; modern atomic and bonding theory; mass and energy relationships in chemical reactions; equilibria; acids and bases; descriptive inorganic chemistry; solid state structure; and electrochemistry. Periodic properties of the elements and their compounds are discussed (3 hours lecture, 1 hour recitation). 

Learning Goals

Students should:

  1. Be able to analyze questions in topics of Inorganic Chemistry.
  2. Be able to work effectively in a group to solve scientific problems that pertain to Inorganic Chemistry.
  3. Receive a solid foundation in Inorganic Chemistry.

 

How the course is taught
Lecture with a strong interactive component. Recitations are used for Group Work with students working on problems in small 2-4 student groups.
